The other night I helped a mom in labor with twins and ohh my gosh!! After work I was so exhausted, but probably not as tired as the mom was afterwards. She had a successful vaginal delivery with both babies. Sometimes it is easy to take care of twins if baby A is breech, then all you have to do is prep them for a c-section and vwhola, that's it. But if they are head down then we have to work harder and stress a lot more. One thing I hate doing is trying to keep both babies on the FHR monitor. They always tend to be wiggle worms and I am always adjusting and moving the monitors... all night long. PAIN! But the little girls held still pretty good. I cheated and put a scalp electrode on. It's easier. Anyway, so I get her to the c-section room to start pushing and we pushed and pushed FOREVER! My back was so sore from holding her leg up for her. Her husband was feeding her ice chips and I almost said, "Can I have some?" My mouth was so dry and I was so thirsty. But like I said, probably not as bad as the pt. So the doctor finally pulled the first baby out and we passed it through the window to the nursery. Cute little thing. I will never forget the face of the mom when I told her that she needed to push again. She looked at me with these pleading, exhausted eyes and asked, "5 more minutes!" I said sure and then reassured her that Baby B would be easier. It was and in less than 5 minutes she was done. What a relief when the babies were out. Even though she hemorrhaged and her pressure dropped to 80/40 I was still relieved that the babies were okay because it is easier to take care of one pt at a time, rather than 3. What a crazy night, but thanks Hilarie. you really helped a lot.

Ahh! That is crazy. I used to think that I wanted twins but no way no way no way. Having one wiggle worm baby in there is enough. How do you feel about my pregnant in 2009 idea? Would you like to jump on the bandwagon?
